May arrived wrapped in sunshine, blossoms, and one of life’s sweetest gifts—the birth of our newest grandchild, Calvin Cole. Born on May 21st, Calvin’s arrival made an already special day even more meaningful. The date marks our wedding anniversary and that of his parents, Alix and Nick. This year, we celebrated 32 years of marriage while they celebrated four beautiful years together. What a precious way for our family story to continue.
We were so happy that Kaela was there to welcome Calvin into the world and to spend time loving on her nieces, Lia and Hollie. While photos and video calls are wonderful, our hearts are eagerly waiting for July when we finally get our turn to hold, cuddle, and fall completely in love with little Calvin.
Then came our trip to California to visit Larry, my dad’s brother, and his wonderful wife, Janice. Although the calendar would call it a short trip, our hearts know differently. The days were filled with the kind of moments that linger long after the suitcases are unpacked.
My brother, Mark, met us there, and what began as a visit quickly turned into a treasured family gathering. Our cousins, Missy and Casey, along with their spouses, each made the eight-hour drive to join us. In true Rider family fashion, they arrived posing as “health and safety inspectors,” setting the tone for an evening filled with laughter from the very first hello.
Around the table, stories flowed as easily as the conversation. We shared meals, memories, and the kind of laughter that comes from a lifetime of knowing and loving one another. For a few precious hours, time seemed to slow down, allowing us to simply enjoy being together.
And then there is Larry and Janice. What a beautiful example of love, partnership, and grace they are. Being with them reminded us that some of life’s greatest blessings aren’t found in grand adventures, but in sitting together, sharing stories, and appreciating the people who have shaped our lives. We left California with full hearts, grateful for every hug, every laugh, and every moment spent together.
Some trips are measured in miles. This one will always be measured in love. ❤️
